Anyone that was on FaceBook today can tell you that the status feed was inundated with random colors. I first noticed it mid-afternoon and by 5p.m. I had to figure out why this rainbow had hurled on my friend feed. The instant I began my search I received a text from a friend wondering what all the shouting of colors was about. I was pleased to report to her that it was yet another random infection in which messages were being passed behind the scenes to post your bra color in hopes or raising breast cancer awareness.
This brings back a conversation I was part of over this past summer about a t-shirt with the same intent. The shirt was simple, black with short sleeves and simply stated ‘Save The TaTas’ across the front. Someone I was with remarked how distasteful it was and I had to agree. I did think it was distasteful but if it reminded one woman to do a self exam, if it told one man to get an exam, if a tack t-shirt prevented one death of the nasty beast that is cancer… then it’s worth it. After all, it got use talking – didn’t it?

As the son of a breast-cancer survivor, I don’t care how distasteful it becomes to some if it means people get it through their minds that this is something that needs to be done.
My mom ignored it for too long and only by the grace of God that we have her with us today. We all need to be aware of the “C” word and do what we can to keep ourselves safe.
