December 2009

After yesterday’s post I am ready to hit 2010 running. I figure the best place to begin is to tell you about the things I made for our New Year’s Eve party, right? First we made some Crispix Party Mix, and not just ANY Crispix Party Mix…. we made it OURS!! This recipe is so great because you can add to it what you like and make it all yours. No matter how you like your Crispix Mix you begin with a stick (1/2 cup) of butter in a microwave safe dish.

Then you need to add approximately 3 tablespoons of Worshtershire sauce, if you’d like your mix to taste more like steak you can add more but I think 3 Tbsp is perfect for me.

For a bit of a kick I like to add some chili sauce, if you choose to go this route be careful because this sauce is SUPER concentrated. I used about a teaspoon full and it was enough to give a friendly kick to my pretzels. You could also use Tabasco sauce, hot wing sauce, chili powder or nothing at all if you’re of the mild minded sort.

I’m a garlicy kinda girl so this is where I put two cloves of garlic in my handy dandy garlic masher. Add the mashed garlic to the butter bowl.

This next ingredient is not negotiable, you MUST add seasoning salt. I opted for a saltless version today but Lawry’s is a fan favorite or whatever your preferred all purpose seasoning. Add 2 Tablespoons of your chosen seasoning to the bowl.

Put bowl in microwave for 30 second intervals until the butter has begun to melt and ingredients can be mixed, kinda like this.

Once your butter mixture is finished it’s time to raid the pantry for crackers, cereal, nuts, melba toast, pretzels or whatever you’d like to soak with your buttery goodness. Today I had Crispix cereal, pretzels and croutons. Place your mix into a large (turkey sized) cooking bag, you can also do this in a LARGE bowl but I prefer a bag so I don’t smash anything. Fill the bag about half full, 8-10 cups.

Now add your buttery/garlicy/ yummy mixture to your bag of tricks, I took a picture of this but my computer at it – sorry. Use one hand to hold the bag closed and the other to toss the mix around to cover evenly. When everything is happily covered empty out onto cookie sheets, I used a sheet and a cake pan because my oven won’t hold two cookie sheets side-by-side.

Bake your mix at 250 for 20 minutes, remove from oven, stir it around so everyone gets evenly toasty. Nothing is worse than a soggy piece of cereal at your party, NOTHING! Put the pans back into the oven for another 20 minutes. You can use this time to eat a banana, or take a nap.

After the second 20 minutes take the sheets out, stir them around and decide if you’d like your mix to be just a bit crispier. If you choose, as I did, put your mix in for 20 more minutes to ensure maximum toatiness.

And finally, invite all your friends over because it’s not called ‘Party’ Mix for nothing!

Crispix Party Mix

1/2 cup butter

3Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce

2Tbsp Seasoning Salt

1 large clove Garlic

1 tsp chili sauce

8-10 cups of your favorite cereal, nuts, crackers, etc.

Mix all ingredients EXCEPT cereals, crackers & such in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave until melted. Mix remaining ingredients in large cooking bag or bowl. Coat cereal, crackers, nuts with butter mixture. Bake for 20 minute intervals for up to 60 minutes, stirring in between.

My blog has really been neglected over the past month and I’m now regretting it. Life became really busy with holiday preparations and year end junk. I have been doing a lot of thinking about how far I’ve come in 2009 and what I would like to achieve in 2010 and since I’m a list making kind of gal I think I’ll make some lists to share.

2009 : A Glance In The Rear View

  • Celebrated my husband & I’s third wedding anniversary and our son’s first birthday.
  • Met some incredible real estate professionals through #REBCOhio.
  • Found perfect homes in Marion for numerous First Time Buyers.
  • Worked with some great tenants in our apartments.
  • Discovered social media and became addicted.
  • Connected with the most influential people around through Facebook & Twitter. Feel free to look me up, I love getting to know people on these two platforms.
  • Learned enough CSS & HTML code to totally trash my site (not once but twice)
  • Assisted my coworkers at Real Estate Showcase, RES to raise over $8,000 for local charities.

2010 : My To Do List

  • Celebrate our fourth wedding anniversary and our son’s second birthday ::tear::
  • Continue to provide my clients with the most up to date information on legislation, lending and listings available.
  • Make RE Bar Camp Ohio 2 even greater than the first.
  • Learn to use my DSLR and maybe even take a class or two on photography.
  • Run a 5k (yeah, that’s right! A 5K!!!!)
  • Attend a RE Bar Camp other than Ohio.
  • Go to Japan and New Zealand, I’ve got a passport and I’m not afraid to use it.
  • Campaign with my husband for Re-election as Marion County Commissioner.

Let us show you….

December 29, 2009

Let us show you how to clean. I started off cleaning and some how ended up on the floor wrestling with our son. I must admit it was a fun distraction from cleaning the house ;-)

New Tax Credit, New Questions

As if the First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit wasn’t confusing enough, legislators had to make the Tax Credit For Existing Home Owners just as confusing, that’s just how things are done when making laws. For example when the changes rolled out a few weeks ago I was informed that the current home had to [...]
