Today my son and I made a trip to Lawrence Orchard for some DELICIOUS apples and peaches. I had been there before for AppleFest but I guess with so many people there I didn’t pay attention to the bee hive in a glass/wooden case. I took a quick picture with my BlackBerry of the hive because I thought it was pretty cool. The clump of goop on the left side of the picture is where the bees have started to build up was on the glass.
While we were there I purchased some McIntosh apples and some peaches which were by far the best I’ve had in a long time. When we got home I made some applesauce which our son can’t get enough of. Here’s the recipe I used for our stellar applesauce:
1/2 peck (about 5#) of McIntosh apples
1/2 cup water
1 cup of granulated white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 TBSP cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Peal, core and slice apples, place in sauce pot with all other ingredients. Simmer for approximatley 1 hour, mash with spoon or potato masher until the consistency you desire. Finished applesauce can be jarred according to jarring instructions.
